Before an evening of cragging at Penmaen Head near Colwyn Bay, I’d spent a very pleasant day hiking in the Carneddau with some students.

A breezy but warm day with super views in every direction. The temperature got down to 4°C last night so I was pleased to see it get back up to high teens for the day. We summited Gyrn and Moel Faban during the days journey.

John was waiting with some older students when I got back, so swapped rucksacks and set out to Colwyn Bay with climbing gear.

I’d not climbed here in years, so it was nice to get back on the rock there. It was pretty steep and pumpy, but as the name suggests, there are some good flowstone features to climb and super views from the top chains.

We climbed through the golden hour and only walked away once to a sun had set. A full day out!
