Another day, another bike, another country…

Unpacked a car full of bags of clothes, equipment and dirty washing, from the last few weeks of summer travels. Loddington, Somerset, Bristol, Cornwall, Manchester, Copenhagen, all had a separate bag and bundle of stuff to be sorted! In the last ten weeks, we realised that we’d only had ten nights at home and spent almost every night in between, in a different bed! No wonder we’re rather tired and disoriented!

No time for resting too much though as I’ve been out on a cycle training day, back home in North Wales! It is strange having a house again though, with food and drink pretty much on tap. The energy spent locating campsites and shopping each day to make a meal is not to be under estimated! And the ease of showering and toilet visits is luxurious!

I’ve been brushing up on the mechanical side of things (thankfully we didn’t have any major bike issues in Denmark!), and looking at the practicalities and safety issues of leading a group on bikes. Something I used to do years ago, mountain biking, but not bike touring.

We had a nice ride along a section of the north coast cycle way, near Rhos on Sea, practicing signalling, group control and leader positioning. There’s a lot more to consider when there’s a group freewheeling around you!

Happily, we had a much shorter ride compared to recent days, and the bikes felt so light without my usual panniers and camp gear on the back! A great day of training and maybe the start of another student expedition in the future?…
