Started the day off with a beautiful short walk up to the viewpoint near camp. Unbelievably, a family of Rhinos wandered past below us! Felt very lucky to be able to just sit and watch.

A super final bit of wildlife spotting, but eventually we had to get going. Once we’d cleaned out the truck and packed our bags ready for the return drive to Windhoek we said our goodbyes to this area and got back on the road.

A section of sandy tracks got us back to the tarmac, where we straight lined it back to the capital city, where there were still big families of baboons hanging out on the central reservations of the duel carriageway. We passed about a hundred of them sat enjoying the freshly cut grass as we turned off the slip road into the city! Our route took us directly to the hire depot, where we handed back the Hilux. Part sad to give it back and part relieved to have survived!

Little did we know that the best (most luxurious), accommodation was still to come. When planning any of our trips and expeditions, Clare is always good at seeking out a good bed for the night, but on this occasion she really outdid herself! The hire depot taxi dropped us off at the door of the most incredible looking modern house, and after a month of desert camp living, it felt like we’d entered another word. From here on it was bye-bye rooftop tent, and hello millionaire luxury mansion!

What a place. Sand and dust free!One of the most incredible places we’ve ever stayed at. The living space was set over three indoor levels and two more outside ones! Including a high level hammock, swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, multiple sofas, a snug, three dining room options, indoor and outdoor kitchen, balconies everywhere, etc etc!…

We had just over 24 hours to make the most of the place, and certainly gave it our best efforts! A five minute walk away was a quirky steak and beer house, which was recommended for dinner. We went early so we could get back home before dark.

As the national dish in Namibia is steak and beer, that’s exactly what I ordered! Fillet steak. Very nice.

A super fun meal at a very reasonable price, in a crazy setting.

The house had its own individual fridges set at different temperatures for different wines, so on our return it seemed rude not to give some a try. Interestingly, red wine here seems to be served chilled and we often observed locals popping in a couple of ice cubes to their wine glasses for good measure. It didn’t feel right to us, so we tried a local chilled white Chardonnay instead, drank by the poolside before heading up for a last look at the stars from the cliff top hammock. What a finale to this great adventure.
