Seniors Gully Scramble (Gd I)

I’ve had a nice week with a few days on the lake in canoes and on paddleboards for a change. There have been some heavy downpours between bright sunny spells – a bit like April, but much warmer! After going for a drink with Matt in Llanberis on Thursday evening, I drove home though an amazing sunset!

Saturday saw me heading up the side of Idwal Slabs with a super keen student team on an intro to scrambling day.

Far from ideal conditions, but the shelter of the main cliffs kept us out of the wind and we made upward progress as water ran down the cliffs.

There were some big rain showers, some light drizzle and every now and then a view down the valley.

We made the route as hard or as easy as we needed, with some sections needing the rope and others easily scrambled up. A good place to practice some rope work skills, with different types of belays. Meanwhile, Clare was surfing at the beach in full blue sky sunshine!

All this mountain fun was followed by meeting Josie for her housewarming party, then some good tunes and dancing at Rachuba. Great day.
