Rock Climbing in Langdale

Had a double venue climbing day today in the warm, but over cast Langdale Valley.

First up was at Copt Howe crag near the Langdale Boulders, where we were joined by James and Daniel.

We actually climbed just to the right of the main outcrop, on some rough rock, to save time, as the lads still had a mountain to climb later that day.

I led the route and the guys followed me up, collecting the gear as they went, then enjoyed sorting it all out for us afterwards.

The boys then went over to climb the Old Man of Coniston, while Clare and I headed further up the valley, to the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, below Raven Crag. We scored the last parking spot in the car park, and were surprised to find only a couple of other teams climbing, on what is one of the Lake’s best and easily accessible cliffs. Perhaps the cloud cover had put people off?…

We got straight onto one of the easier classic climbs, which goes up a steep section of cliff, but with great holds, loads of gear and good belays.

Feeling a bit tired, we took our time, enjoying the upward journey in four pitches.

On a different day, we might have had a drink in the pub below after climbing, but as we were staying only 15 minutes away in a super luxurious house, we returned there for drinks and nibbles on the terrace instead! After a drink with Mom, the summit team returned and we finished the day with our first indoor meal of the week!
