For the third time now, I’ve made the journey through the Caminito del Rey. The first was a terrifying passage, with questionable safety standards, but the second and third have been a much more organised affair.

It was actually a cloudy start and was nice to recognise the rock formations that I’d sat under years ago before the path ways became restricted.

This was the state of things my first visit…

Complete contrast these days! Full health and safety checks, complete with helmets and hair-nets!

We even had a tour guide, which was actually pretty good as it meant I learnt a bit more about its history and construction.

The scenery remains just as impressive and the memory of balancing across this little bridge was rekindled…

The route was bumper to bumper with other tourists and mostly big guided groups. This made it a rather slow plod, but had the advantage of meaning that we all had to stop for the ‘official photo’ on the glass floor section…

Then, after 7km or so, we exited the gorge and El Chorro was just a short walk away.

After picking up a few souvenirs, it was back to the pad to start packing up. There were a few spots of rain which put everyone else off, but I still went for a swim and watched the weird cloud formations boiling above…

A final blast of colour at sunset made a nice little goodbye to our time here in Spain. A change in flights means that we’ve got a very unsociable 02:30am start to get the group back to the airport….
