The Northern Lights & Husky Training…

We had an absolute treat last night as we were brushing our teeth and getting ready for bed!

This is our wilderness lodge, which we accessed by Skidoo yesterday afternoon. It’s very comfortable inside and outside are 89 excitable Huskies ready for action!

The lights were incredible. Mostly made of shifting shapes of greens. Absolutely magic. I stayed up a little later once everyone had gone to bed and even saw two shooting stars pass through them which was a special moment. Here are some of the hundreds of poor attempts to try and capture the moment.

Skies were still clear this morning. We were up at 7am on ‘poo clear up duties’, which involved meeting the dogs, picking up a lot of frozen turds, and some less frozen ones.. Yuck!

Our bread and cheese breakfast was significantly better looking than theirs.

Next job was to get out on the trails for a practice on the sleds…

We did a short 15km loop to get the hang of stopping and starting etc, which everyone managed well.

After some soup back at base, the afternoon has been spent sorting rations and supplies for the next four of five days that we’ll be away for. That’s quite a lot of food for us and 350kg worth of dog food!

There is a sauna cabin on the side of the lake, so Aled and I enjoyed a bit of peace at the cabin, while the lads tried it out.
