Early on Elidir Fawr

A sunny Sunday in the summer holidays meant that an early start was required to get out and about before the crowds, but with a blue sky dawning, it didn’t feel like too much of a hardship after the initial shock of the pre 6am alarm.

We drove ten minutes up the hill to gain as much height as we could before setting off and 45 minutes later arrived at our first peak – Carnedd y Filiast.

It was good to be back up high with views all around us as the sun was rising over the Glyders. Solitude and space. We continued onwards to Mynydd Perfedd, where the profile of Elidir Fawr is at its’ most impressive.

We past a couple emerging from a tent as we followed the ridge down and then upwards towards the summit.

We stopped briefly on the summit to admire the views of Nant Peris, Snowdon and the distant Lleyn Peninsular.

On the way down to Elidir Fach, we bumped into a friend who was running up from Llanberis. I was nice to see a friendly face and have a quick chat. We all felt quite accomplished to have been up three peaks before 8am!

A trot downhill back to the car, had us back at just over 2 hours for the whole circuit and some nice views over Anglesey.

As we reached the car, Clare had the idea of driving down to the river for a morning swim as it was still early. The water felt pretty cool compared to the alps, but was super re-freshing – especially when followed up with a trendy breakfast and a relax in the sunshine in the peace and quiet at The Cottage Cafe!

A day of painting at The Cottage followed, but but early evening the temperatures had reached 24 degrees, so we downed tools and went to make the most of the mini heatwave, down by the river.

This time, the water felt much warmer! We floated about, enjoyed the views and went home for dinner once the sun hit the skyline. Early to bed! Exhausted!
