Sunrise Swimming

Our final day in France started early before the sun had even made it over the jagged horizon. we rolled out of bed and went straight down the hill to the bakery, for an arm full of croissants and a baguette so fresh it was still warm from the oven.

Next stop was the local lake, where we had the wonderful solitude and stillness of making the first ripples of the day as the sun burst over the mountains.

In the cool of the morning, the water actually felt a bit warmer than usual!

A lovely way to start a long day of travel. We’d come prepared with hot drinks to accompany the pain au chocolates, so had a waterside breakfast as we dried off.

All the remained was to pack the final bags into the car and we were off. Just a 1003km to the channel tunnel!…

We settled into the drive, taking turns to watch the views go by before the toll roads led the way north into the night…

Dinners and snacks were had en-route and dinner in a Aire, was enjoying before arriving at a Hotel an hour or so before Calais where sleep came quickly.
