Skyline Slate Climbing

Out of bed and straight out onto the bike this morning! A fine little local circuit via the shops to pick up some food for a late breakfast! Super warm temps here still, so made the most of Al fresco breakfasting at The Cottage.

A very windy day to be up in the slate quarry, but the sun was keep g things nice and warm. We didn’t head out until quite late in the end, but thought Skyline area should provide a quick adventure hit.

The pressure was on as after climbing the first section (good trad gear placements), I reached the first bolt at the same time as the first drops of rain!

A light drizzle blew though, but the wind dried it out before it became cause for concern. However across the valley, there was clearly more on the way! Our climb was too long to lower back to the ground, so I was somewhat committed to getting to the top before further precipitation rendered the face unclimbable! It certainly helped to crystallise one’s concentration. I was three bolts from the top when it really went for it, and I pulled on the last quickdraw to ensure safe passage!

The slate was wet as I set up the belay, but it was beginning to blow dry as Clare followed me up to retrieve the gear. Not wanting to push our luck, we chose pancakes at The Cottage over another semi-dry route!

Llanberis Slate:

– Ruby Marlee meets Dr Hollingsworth 6a** (40m with trad start). Bring plenty of quickdraws!
