Lightening Visit VS (4c)**

Leaving the belay

There were a fair amount of false starts today and having left The Cottage with a full day of plans, we found ourselves making new ones all day! There has been a beautiful cloud inversion across Snowdonia, but as we drove through full blue sky sunshine, as we approached our chosen cliffs, we found a cold bank of think cloud hugging onto them. We turned the car around and rapidly came up with a plan B. Arriving in at the parking spot for Carreg Alterem – the nearest cliff that was still in the sun, I then Dodi that I’d left my rope at The Cottage!

Luckily, Clare did have one! This meant we could still climb, but only in short pitches and would not be able to abseil down.

View from the crag

We climbed the excellent ’Lightening Visit’ while our friend Dave was instructing nearby – we were both equally surprised to see other climbers there on a Monday morning! While they had the luxury of being able to abseil back to the ground, we descended a ver steep overgrown gully to the right of the climbs. Not really recommended!

The descent climb!

By now it was super hot and while Dave and the folk he was assessing for their MCI qualification climbed our route, we decided to walk down to the river to cool off.

Rather than climb a harder route with one rope and have to jungle bash down again the river was much more appealing!

Picnic time

A happy hour or so was spent skipping stones! Before heading off to meet friends in Llanberis for the evening…

On the way to Llanberis, we just managed to squeeze in a quick stop off at the lake for a swim. It’s definitely getting colder in the water!!
