Anniversary Adventures in Ibiza

Thirteen years after a bright but very cold wedding on the island of Anglesey, we’ve gone to celebrate our anniversary on the slightly warmer Spanish island of Ibiza. The journey there was an eventful one. A delayed flight put things back a bit and gave the majority of the passengers time to sink a few more pre flight pints than usual. In the air, the turbulence was even more rowdy than some of the drinkers. The plane rocked hard from side to side, before dropping suddenly. Drinks were tossed in the air, the stewards staggered and grabbed at headrests to steady themselves and almost everyone on board let out a scream!! We were very glad to land. More chaotic scenes greeted us at the airport thanks to Brexit. The new airport scanners and biometric data points were not working properly, with big queues of tired people and no English speaking staff to assist. We thanked our lucky stars that we’d recently visited Spain so had already been through that section. We bypassed the throng and after a few attempts, the electronic passport scanner let us through into the empty baggage reclaim hall. We’d escaped! The bag was waiting for us and so was our driver who soon whisked us away. By 23:00, we were checked in and sipping celebratory champagne in the deserted hotel bar.

Next morning, this is the view we woke up to. Cala Llonga Bay, Ibiza.

After a lengthy breakfast, we moved out onto the hotel terrace, and just for the hell of it, as the opportunity to do so is rarely around, we sat in the sun with a Pina Colada and Miami Vice cocktail each! Ha ha!

Contrary to our usual activities, a short walk to the beach and a few coffees saw the morning pass in a very agreeable way.

There was a cool wind blowing, so not conducive for swimming, but up behind the hotel we’d identified a small summit and view point to hike to.

Another day, another trig point! At 220m Puig de ses Terrets, gave a fine view point and enough exercise to work up a hunger for the evening meal.

Dinner was served as the sun was setting. This is the view from the table.
