A new summit and a new trig point for me! While the mountains were looking rather inhospitable, it was looking like the north coast of Anglesey might provide some blue (if a little blustery) skies. After a quick bit of map searching, we identified the little peak of Mynydd Elian which neither of us have climbed before.

We set out for the village of Eilain, past the church and down to the coastal path to begin with. (There’s a nice, free, car park near the caravan park). The sea was predictably wild, but with the wind on our backs, it was a beautiful hike out to the light house at Point Lynas.

We sat up against the wall of the lighthouse for shelter, and out of the wind, the sun felt lovely and warm. Our modest picnic lasted a hour as we were both enjoying the combination of chat and respite from the wind so much! Soon after as we set off along the coastal path on the east coast of the island, a huge squall blew through. Minutes later it was snowing hard!

Thankfully, it had passed through within fifteen minutes and normal service was resumed as we followed the plentiful footpath network inland and uphill.

By the time we were at the top of the lofty 177m peak, the skies were fully clear again and the black clouds just reaching Liverpool.

Nice to be on a new peak, with new views!

The descent took us down over a few roads and zig-zagged between gorse and brambles towards the car.

And loads of funky looking ‘Horsetails’, getting ready to bloom.

On arrival back home, I was so exhausted that I came through the door, lay down on the summer lounge floor and fell instantly asleep. Clare woke me up half an hour later as we were due at Dave’s house for his birthday gathering! We made it there a few minutes later than anticipated after a reviving shower and a change of clothes. Then, as we’d ‘double-booked’ the evening, we left the soiree early and met a different group of friends in Y Felinheli around 9pm, for a night of dancing that a DJ from our Uni days had put on. Great beats and loads more friendly faces took us past midnight!

After a post-dance, pre-bed brew around 1am, the clocks suddenly popped forward to 2am, so all in all, a rather late night!…
