I’ve had another fine day teaching on a ‘Mountain Skills’ Course and seem to have managed to combine this with another good weather day!

While ticking off the syllabus, I took the students on a journey into the less-traveled area of the Carneddau mountains. Setting out from Bethesda, and after negotiating the steep lanes, we soon arrived on the open mountainside, with some impressive views, thanks to last night’s fresh snowfall.

After traversing the summit of Gryn Wigiau (615m), and crossing over to Drosgyl (758m), we had hoped to continue across the summits up to the shelter on Foel Grach (976m), but after passing Berra Bach (807m), time was starting to get on, so we opted to descend into the valley.

We navigated to seveeral sheep folds and this old quarry. I’d never actually walked into the back of the concour feature and was surprised to find a very big hole in the ground!

As we were walking out, the skies really cleared up and the views were superb!

On the drive home, having returned the students, John and Ange suggested that there might just be time to get a drink by the Straits before the sunset. I called Clare and she drove down to meet us as the skies declared a change in weather was on the way.

A super fun and impromptu social by the water, even if the incoming clouds dampened the colours of the sunset a little!
