Elidir Fawr to Carnedd y Filiast

Back up to Carnedd y Filiast for a second time again today! But this time via the extended version over Elidir Fawr and Mynydd Perfedd and in much better weather.

Yesterday’s low clouds had cleared and the remaining snow was frozen hard. I’ve been running a Mountain Skills course, which is one of ‘Mountain Training’s’ certified courses. A perfect day for it and with a motivated group of students, made for a fine day of work…

The Marchlyn Reservoir was very low. The views were far reaching with super air clarity.

From the top of Elidir (which we reached via the ridge and rocky scramble from the dam), we could see for miles. The air temperature was just above freezing, and although there was just a light breeze, it felt cold.

Ice was slowly melting and crashing to the ground off the rocks.

The snow line crept up during the day…

But the north faces stayed cold!

A marvellous 10km loop that takes in three good summits, with a short ridge crest to follow and some rocky scrambling. Good mountain skills terrain! On the walk down, we passed yesterday’s snow men still standing proudly on the grass…
