Orienteering…

Today I was helping run an orienteering event – we used new ‘techno’ markers rather than the usual ‘old fashioned’ clippers. My first job was to take the map and markers and make sure they were all set out in the right place – no pressure then!

The terrain underfoot was treacherous and sodden. I got a few good views of Llandudno at first, but the rain began in earnest mid-morning and continued all day. By the time we had to retrieve the markers, the ground was a cross between a bad year at Glastonbury and the WW1 trenches!

I arrived back at base so soaked and mud-plastered that I had to be cleaned off with a jet hose!

This is what most of the students returned looking like as a minimum….

The final sting in the tail came when having run over the hill to collect in the markers at the end of the day, I was about to get cleaned up when Dwyn discovered that I’d missed one, so I had to go back out and find it! By the time we were all packed away, my map App had recorded a distance of 15km run and 400m of ascent climbed!

All in a days work eh….!
