Woke up to find a new dump of snow had been delivered overnight!

I thought that I’d have to change my plan of a hike up to the ‘secret bothy’, as I wasn’t sure that the road would be passable in a minibus, but after checking the snow level against the road altitude, we decided that we’d make it, and luckily enough, we arrived at the top car park unscathed.

We hike in on the main track, following a few footprints and left a trail of our own for others to find…

We rolled a huge snowball down the hill, before crossing over to the side of the valley where the Bothy is situated. We had an exciting river crossing (a committing jump!), before the final hike up to the door, where warmth and shelter greeted us.

We’d all carried a bundle of logs each and soon had the place warmed up. Once the fire was going, we also cooked a hot lunch and warmed hands on hot chocolate.

There’s a bit of a ‘damp’ vibe inside on first arrival, but it was soon made cosy enough to enjoy the place. Before we departed, we took a few bags of rubbish away and left a pile of dry logs for the next visitors to enjoy, then made our way across the snowy and boggy ground back to the bus. A fine day out!
