Expedition Assessing

It’s been a rather strange existence over the past three days as I’ve been working solo, shadowing and assessing a team of hikers on their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition. Things started off in fine weather over near Betws y Coed, but have since changed for the worse!

Being off the beaten track has lead me to all sorts of old places that I’ve either never been to or never noticed…

I was fortunate enough to be passing Llyn Mymbyr with time to spare for an idyllic swim!

And again later on that same afternoon! It seemed rude not to really, with such still conditions.

I’ve camped at the bottom of the Watkin Path (that leads up Snowdon) and also in Beddgelert. The first was a delight and we even negotiated some wood for a fire from a fellow camper. Camp food has been okay and there have been plenty of ‘bus brews’ too.

Around Llyn Dinas, the skies clouded over and last night the rain turned torrential.

We cooked dinner together under the semi shelter of an oak tree, then all had an early night.

The damp day started in a thick mist, but the sun won through and it’s been a pleasant Sunday over on the west side of Snowdon.

I even got to see the steam train pass by at one check point…

After getting back to base and sorting all the soaking wet kit, I drove straight to the Menai Straits for a friends birthday and do other weekend with a super sunset.
