It’s the time of year when having a head torch in your rucksack becomes essential. Tim and I nipped out last night for a quick climb in the slate quarry and discovered that it’s starting to get much darker much earlier than anticipated!

After a damp start, things dried up during the day, so we swapped plans of climbing indoors and nipped out to the quarry after dinner. We walked into Never Never land area to see the recent rockfall and by the time we’d got the ropes out, it was certainly ’dusk’ and rapidly getting darker.

I got to the top in my little pool of torch light which was pretty exciting.

When Tim followed, it was pitch black!

A great little adventure and fun to be out after dark. We even tried to go for a celebratory pint in the local pub, but aborted after dodging a very drunk bloke in the door way only to find it was a cash only bar. We returned to the safety of The Cottage for tea and toast instead!

I’ve been in the lake every day for the last four days. Twice to swim with Clare and twice with a paddleboard group, and each time the conditions have been different – including one very windy day!
