After a month of quiet alpine living in the mountains, it’s been both a treat and a shock to find ourselves in the city, staying with Anna, Jonathan and Ben in the hustle and bustle of Windsor – in a house that’s literally right outside the Castle Walls. And not only is there a famous and superbly impressive castle, there’s also Legoland – another ‘first’ for us.

And of course, unlimited places to eat and drink, many of which we seem to have sampled during our short stay.

Legoland was as bonkers as anticipated, with rides, queues, music, lights, and of course, unbelievable Lego constructions…

After 8km of hiking around the grounds, we’d barely scratched the surface, but had certainly exhausted ourselves. Lloyd and I even braved a roller coaster – not really my cup of tea, but Ben was keen! Lunch stayed down, so we were both happy with that and chalked it down to one of life’s ’experiences’.

Ben has kept us fit with his endless enthusiasm…

We’ve seen some of the fantastic Castle grounds. This must be a contender for one of the best ‘driveways’ leading up to a house (castle actually).

With our local guide ‘Rav’ leading the charge (and generally leading us astray!), we even sampled the delights of a ‘night out’ in Windsor, where we saw and sampled some of the best and probably worst midweek venues with more than our fair share of drinking, dancing and generally merriment. I even had a brief introduction to the dangerously delicious world of cocktails, and for the full experience, we dodged a genuine mass nightclub brawl out on the streets at closing time as we ducked out and headed home at 2am!

It’s fair to say we were all a bit tired the next day, except for one little guy! Ha ha!

A brilliant time and wonderful to hang out with everyone. City living is definitely more exhausting than alpine climbing…
