Well it had to end sometime, but unfortunately, some cooler and damper weather arrived just in time for a sunrise ascent of Tryfan that I’d got planned with some students. It was a 03:20 wake up call in the back of the van, where I’d had a few hours sleep, then after collecting the team, drove to Ogwen, where we were wet from the moment we left the minibus!

Cold enough to need gloves and warm hats again – unthinkable just two days ago!

We had a sort of breakfast in the shelter of the summit rocks at 06:50. It was too windy and wet to try and climb on to the top of them and certainly not a day for jumping between them!

Half way down the west face, we finally got a glimpse of where we were!

By 10:00, I’d handed the group over to some other staff, who were taking them on the next section of their challenge – an ascent of Cader Idris, followed by a trip up Snowdon. I got undressed outside, hung everything up to dry in the warm wind and went to bed for an hour.

The afternoon was a blur of computer work and moving kit for the next day’s adventure – (marshalling a student triathlon) and eventually fell into bed at two minutes past midnight after greeting the mornings mountaineers down from Snowdon at 23:30! A long day….with alarm set for another big one.
