Heatwave Hiking

I’ve continued my tour around Snowdonia over the past few days, checking in on my expedition group with endless re-filling their waterbottles, as they’ve marched on in the heat! Got to see some new places, which made for some additional interest, including this old bridge over the Afon Lledr.

John and I took a dip in the river out of necessity more than anything else! The fish came and nibbled our feet while we floated about in the cooling water.

In another unfortunate set of circumstances, I found myself almost stuck in yet another enormous traffic jam. As luck would have it, I as able to dodge the queue and ‘sit it out’ by the water for 90minutes, before carrying on.

A minimum of two swims a day has been the average all week – each at a different location.

My final check point involved a hair raising drive up a very steep single track road into the heart of the Carneddau. I’d been ‘reliably informed’ that it was okay to drive up. I did make it there and back, but won’t be going again! Thankfully I met no other tray as there were very limited passing places! Phew. Big sigh of relief when I got back down unscathed!!

Thunder clouds have been bubbling around the Cottage. There have been some isolated thunderstorms and mega downpours, but we seem to have missed most of the direct hits.

On Monday, we took a pre-breakfast dip, and found the water to be much cooler after the rains.

That’s the list of my summer Duke of Edinburgh’s Award work done. A super week, some lovely people, fabulous swims and incredible weather! A good finale!
