Trekking in the Atlas Mountains – Day 4

A solid breakfast to start us off. Square pancakes with jam and cheese made a welcome change to the watery porridge.

In the cool of the morning, we picked our way up through the rubble of the upper village, while workers were re-building.

We were soon above the village, with great views. In the distance were peaks that I’d climbed previously and could make out the upper refuge we’d stayed in. Good memories.

A steady plod, got us up to the Col (Tizi n’Mzik).

On the far side, we enjoyed our best lunch yet! A flat shady area, mint tea and a huge feed including a massive monster omelette!

Knowing it was all downhill from there, we could take our time eating and we enjoyed an extended digest time with a game of Grandma Martin’s ‘Shops’.

In the way back to Imlil, I stopped for a photo outside an old hostel that I remembered staying at on my first expedition to this area around 2003! After arrived back at Mohammed’s house, our guide Abdul took us for a tour of his family farm.

They have apple tree and walnuts, but next week they’ll be harvesting Cherries! We ‘helped’ to pick a few and ate quite a lot more! So delicious!

Thought of Dad as we passed a shop that was stocking up. We helped move some sugar, which comes in boxes as a solid block rather than cubes or granules. I’d asked how much sugar Abdul used during the week, and he replied “just the two”. – “Kilos that is”!!

Between drinking very sweet mint tea, life is tough here. The villagers were still working the fields as we went for dinner at 19:30 after a game of footy with some kids.
