An evening with The Kooks

I seem to be packing in a good amount of fun stuff into the long summer evenings at the moment and tonight was no exception. But rather than heading to the mountains after a day in ‘the office’, Clare picked me up and we zipped over to Chester for the night for some live music!

We’ve been listening to The Kooks on and off for years and both had fond memories of listening to their first album in our first house in Cornwall. The band are on their seventh album now which is released this week. With a following of a couple of million fans on social media, quite by chance, I got a ‘tip off’ that they were playing a small album launch show just a few days ago, with just the singer and guitarist and just a few fans..

As they usually just play big stadiums, it was quite the stroke of luck to be able to get a couple of tickets. Although it’s a busy week, the timing were perfect. Doors opened at 18:00, the band were on at 18:45 and by 20:00 it was all done and dusted and we were back out in the sunshine!

It felt like we’d been transported to a different world! Front row on the balcony for the best views in the house as well! Ace. A great performance.

We even had time to go for a drink in one of the many city pubs (which felt like a rare treat compared to North Wales life!), and we’re back at The Cottage by 22:00, and in bed by half past – earlier than usual! Ha ha! Absolutely brilliant. Rock and roll!!
