In the last of the light – Solo on Milestone Buttress

A few days of admin and computer based work at The Cottage could have been seen as frustrating given the weather, but since conditions have been so dry and settled since returning from Norway, it actually felt good to spend a bit of time at The Cottage, recharging ready for the next wave of expeditions.

After an evening meeting finished, I decided that there was still probably just about enough light to fit in a quick climb on Milestone Buttress at the base of Tryfan. It’s only a ten minute drive from The Cottage, and so at 20:27, I parked up and jogged up to the crag….

It only took a further five minutes of heavy breathing to reach the bottom of the crags, where I took a moment to change shoes and catch my breath.

Twelve minutes later, I’d climbed all four pitches of the route and was sat at the abseil point, revelling in the solitude, which served as a good antidote to the rather hectic and involved meeting that I’d just left!

A quick scamper back down the descent path, saw me back at the van at 20:55. A mere 28 minutes after leaving it! probably an unintentional record! As I was driving away, I recognised a couple of friends who’d been bouldering and stopped to chat as the light properly faded. Full use of the day!
