Climbing on Bochlwyd Buttress

Another belter of a summers day in North Wales today! Temperatures in the mid twenties until sunset!

Unfortunately, I had plenty of computer based work to get through first thing, but in the afternoon was able to walk over the hill to visit my friend John for a coffee and a catch up.

Once Clare had finished work, we drove up the valley to climb a route on Bochlwyd Buttress, which had been soaking up the sun all day and was warm to touch. We climbed a nice route called ‘two pitch climb’ (in one long pitch!), before Dave came up to meet us.

We then held his ropes while he climbed ‘The Eliminate’ which is the classic of the crag.

We’d all climbed it plenty of times over the years, but Clare got most credit for climbing it when she’d first started out, while only owning 10 wires and 1 small cam to protect it, which must have been a very bold ascent!

It was a lovely evening and when we topped out together, I realised that we’d been climbing together for the past 22 years!

Inevitably, it was getting dark when we walked down and were suddenly ravenous for dinner! It was 21:30 by the time we got to eat, but worth the delay… a super evening…
