Returning to Civilisation

Another long day of travel, but this time using a range of different transportations, which started out with an exciting ride on a skidoo to reach the main road back to Kiruna.

Asbjorn drove, while I clung on behind him as we sped through the forests, dragging a big trailer with all the expedition gear in. The rest of the group were packed in tight into another trailer that followed on with Aled and Christopher.

Although we started out slowly, on a track from the Wilderness Lodge, Asbjorn turned as asked if I fancied a more exciting ride, before diverting off the track into the untracked deep snow, ducking between the trees as we sped along!

A van was waiting for us at the road head, which took us to the airport, via a brief stop at the Ice Hotel for a final big feed, which was well worth it! Best value food in Sweden – much better than an airport sandwich.

Feeling absolutely, stuffed, we flew from Kiruna to Stockholm, then back to Manchester via Oslo, where our driver Dave, was waiting for us in a minibus.

After making sure that everyone was reunited back with parents, Aled and I made the final drive home west along the A55, and I arrived back at The Cottage just before 23:00, where a good shower awaited. A long day!
