I’ve spent the start of the week in mid-wales, attending the two day national conference of the Association of Heads of Outdoor Education Centres. It’s involved a lot of indoor time, with a range of discussions, lectures and workshops with various MPs, professors and other outdoor education advocates. As well as keeping up to date with current trends, it was fun to catch up with friends from around the country who I’d not seen in a few years, as well as meeting lots of new folk. Although it was an indoor conference, I pulled the car over on the early morning journey south to give the sunrise some appreciation!

After dark on Wednesday, Clare and I took a walk around Llyn Idwal by moonlight.

We walked up in pitch black, with a sky full of stars (my camera isn’t good enough for great photos, but you get the idea). As we arrived at the lake shore, the moon rose over the horizon.

We walked a lap of the lake by moonlight and without need for torches, while catching up on each others news from the past few days.

At the far end of the lake, we sat by the waters edge and Clare produced from her rucksack a cheese board, complete with glass of Port each! An amazing surprise! What a place to enjoy it together.

We watched a few satellites pass overhead and picked out what constellations we knew, before crossing the slate bridge and heading back home. Absolutely magic.
