With a full day ahead of us in Lagos and no particular agenda, we opted for a slow morning on our sunny terrace before getting going.

The 5km cycle to a beach called Praia Dona Ana felt quick and easy on unloaded bikes and the coastline we’d heard about looked suitably spectacular from the cliff top.

Getting down to the sand was not the kind of thing you want to do with a bike, so we locked them up and walked down the steps to the beach.

There was a bit of swell putting some good sized waves in at the beach, but if you timed it right, it looked like a swim would be fine. The colour of the water was draw enough to get us in. It was as warm as Wales ever gets in the summer, so we stayed in for a while, bouncing over and diving through the incoming waves.

At the end of the peninsula at Lagos is a dramatic coastline and lighthouse at Ponta da Piedade.

There are all manner of sea arches and sea stack. It’s clearly the thing to come and see here. Even at this time of year, boat loads of sightseeing trips were bobbing about below us and the entire cliff top has a boardwalk with viewing platforms, that were busy with people.

It had been well worth the short extra cycle, but we also fancied a little look around the town as well. This was more of a pushing affair than cycling, due to both the cobbled streets and slower pace to take it all in.

We finished back at the Marina, where we would have sat out in the last of the sun with a cold drink, but it turned out to be ‘Happy Hour’ and the bars were packed! So instead, we pushed past the crowds and returned to the secluded luxury of our appartment balcony.
