It was late in the afternoon, after a morning of admin, when we decided to get out into the hills. The sun felt low as we walked/jogged our way up to a mist covered Carnedd y Filiast.

As we neared the summit, the clouds that we’d ascended into began to thin and suddenly, we broke through the upper levels and into blue sky and warm sunshine!

But best of all was being greeted by a spectacular brokenspectre!

As quick as we could we headed to the higher ground of the summit, followed all the way by our rainbow friend.

We’d gone out in lightweight gear, not expecting to stop for long, so on the summit, we put on all our layers, hats and gloves and watched the phenomenon come and go.

After a while we walked along to the top of the ‘Atlantic Slabs’ to see if it was even better there, but we needed to be on higher ground as the sun was dipping even lower.

We stayed as long as we could, until we started to get too cold. The views and clouds kept blowing through, changing the light and the strength of the rainbow’s colours and intensity. We jogged most of the way down to warm up and were soon back through the cloud layers.

We reached the van at 16:00, just as the sun was touching the far horizons. We’d warmed up a bit, but still needed hot showers when we got back to The Cottage. By 16:30, we were showered, fresh and tucking into a sausage and egg butty, with a steaming mug of tea! A wonderful experience to have shared together…
