Tryfan Party

Another ‘Sunday Summit’ day today. Over the past three Sunday’s I’ve been up Cader Idris, Snowdon and today we had a good hike up and over Tryfan, with a birthday party celebration on the summit for one of the teaching staff!

Climbing Tryfan is a shorter day that the other two peaks and with better weather in the afternoon, it was a nice change to be meeting my students at 07:45 rather than the 04:45 of last weekend! All was calm as we ascended. Eerily so – with not a breath of wind and a flat layer of high clouds.

The high clouds made group management a bit easier and also provided plenty of good views.

We were quite a big team by the time we’d met a Housemaster on the summit, where cake and candles were produced and thanks to the absence of any breeze, we could hang out and take our time up there without chilling down too much.

Having ascended the south ridge, we came quickly down the west face, and arrived at Ogwen Cottage where a heron was quietly fishing!
