Had super early start this morning with an alarm that went off at 03:20am. An alpine start for a non-alpine region, but still worth starting early for. I was guiding a group of students up Tryfan for a sunrise hike and although we set off in thick mists, I was pretty sure that we’d soon be above the clouds.

As we reached the south col of the mountain (having set off from Ogwen Cottage at around 04:40), we pushed through the upper level of the clouds and were treated to some fabulously atmospheric views across a sea of cloud.

As the sunlight warmed the valley, the mist burnt off and we got the full panorama in the pale light of morning.

We had the mountain to ourselves – sort of – there were plenty of mountain goats watching our progress.

The sun warmed us for the final summit ridge. A fine way to top out.

We sat a while on the top as the mist came and went. A few students made the jump between the rocks of Adam and Eve, then just as we were about to descend, the mist filled the valley and the views were gone.

I left it too late for a summit selfie with a view!

We were back down in the valley at around 08:30 and by 09:15, the group had been picked up by another member of our team, so I was left to head home by myself. Although it was cloudy, it was plenty warm enough, so I decided to stop off for a refreshing swim in the river before getting back to The Cottage and crawling into bed!
