Was somewhat surprised to wake up find mist and rain blowing in from Kinderscout this morning. It looked like we might be rained off from our climbing plans, but after a slow breakfast and a quick brew in Hathersage, the summer returned to the Peak District.

We were aiming for a quick route at Millstone Quarry, but the group were feeling somewhat tired from the weeks exertions. Despite Millstone only having a five minute walk in time, the gang opted for an even shorter (across the road from the car park), two minute walk to sample a final bit of bouldering at Owler Tor.

As it turned out, the climbing was the least hazardous thing we did all day – the roads were where the drama was! Just outside of Edale, we came across these guys…

Oh, and there was also an additional hazard to the bouldering venue!

Getting out of the Peak District was a slow affair! Firstly, there were steam trains, waggons, jeeps and an near head on collision with a horsebox, then a slight navigational error had us (minibus and trailer!), heading up the very steep and narrow Winnant’s Pass (not recommended!). Thankfully, we made it up and out unscathed and the remainder of the journey back to The Cottage was hot and sweaty but otherwise uneventful!
