I had enough time at home to spend a few hours in bed before setting out the following morning with a pre-packed expedition pack ready for two days of adventuring with some young students around Llangollen.

We were staying in the town for the night in a comfy hostel, so after dropping off our bags, set out on foot to climb nearby Dinas Bran and explore around the Castle.

Happily, the weather was kind and for the first time in what feels like ages, the cold easterly winds had abated and we could feel the warmth of the sun as we hiked.

By evening, things had changed somewhat and we had to take shelter mid way through our ‘al fresco’ meal by the River Dee. The kids didn’t mind and were happy to play in the rain, and I used the opportunity to give the prototype jacket I’m testing a bit of ‘weather exposure’!

By morning, after a late, but not too late, night with the youngsters, we were up and out early to board our narrow boat for an excursion on the waterways.

From Trevor Basin, it’s an exciting start as we chugged straight across the famous (and incredibly high!) aqueduct.

It was a lovely warm day spent at a relaxing pace. I even managed to get a cup of coffee from a barista on a barge that we passed! T-shirt weather all day, a fun team and great views. Happy days!

Arrived back home to The Cottage sometime after 7pm, with the temperature still at 20°C! Will it last?!….
