Competition Climbing

A long a varied week has come to an end and there is plenty to look back on! Yesterday I competed in the ‘Indy Open’ a bouldering competition on Anglesey. A really great event with amazing boulder problems of all grades and styles, good vibes and top music.

And on Wednesday, I was hosting a bouldering competition! This time on the Boardroom Climbing Wall at Deeside. This was an inter-school student competition, where I was involved with route setting, judging, safety and logistics rather than much climbing. Although it was a ‘competition’ both were really friendly and supportive events with everyone cheering for everyone.

The amount of work that goes into setting a good route is considerable to say the least. The team at Indy were up until gone 1am getting their walls from blank plywood to competition standard! Top effort!

I’ve also been out in the woods this week, where there are plenty of signs of Spring appearing. Thanks to a solid risk assessment(!), we had students chopping logs, cooking on fires, whittling sticks and generally being left to be creative and all with no injuries!

But the big news of the week is that Clare’s Wellbeing Ambassador book made it to Number One in the Amazon Best Sellers list! An absolutely incredible achievement and certainly worthy of a good celebration! She did her first book signing at The Cottage with a brilliant party and a few well earned glasses of Prosecco!

And then to round off a very diverse week, I went to see Martin’s folk band playing in Bangor. Lovely stuff…

And now the small matter of packing ready for our next adventures… Next stop Turkey!…
