I’m pretty used to waking up in a strange place in a sleeping bag, but less used to being woken up in such surrounding with two small boys jumping on me! James and Daniel were true to their word that they’d be getting up at 06:30am! As well as the hugs, the good news was that we were up in time to witness a super sunrise together.

With jackets on over pyjamas and feet sodden in the dew soaked grass, we walked down to the far end of the gardens and watched the sun come up, while bathed in the orange light. It was just as spectacular as being on Snowdon the previous Sunday morning, but a lot less effort! And with a warm house very close by!

We stood and watched the colours change until we got too cold and hungry for breakfast.

After spending the morning with Dad looking over photos from his various building projects, I got back on the road, headed north and swapped flat fields from rolling mountains.

I met Clare and after a quick change, the two of us set off up into the mountains in the warmth of the October evening.

We ran up into the Carneddau where the views out to sea were clear, with just us and our shadows. The perfect antidote for a four hour car journey!

It was a little damp still under foot after the recent rains, but it made it interesting to navigate!

We made it back to the car just before it got dark and just before the temperatures started to drop. I felt physically exhausted, but mentally uplifted…

As is our usual way of packing the days, after a sunrise to sunset Sunday, we now have a full 24 hours at The Cottage to rest, relax, wash, pack, sort, book, faff, eat and drink before departing on our next adventures!… I think I’ll make a brew and put my feet up for a minute or two first though…
